Engineering Services Examination

A engineering services that meet the technical functions of the Government of India.The exam is conducted for selection of engineers for Government of India's engineering organizations, such as Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Central Engineering Service (CES), Military Engineering Services (MES), etc. A combined four-stage competitive examination (comprising six tests), called the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services. The nature of work performed by these bureaucrats largely depends on their engineering branch and the service or cadre they are recruited in. The career progression goes smoothly attaining high esteem . The examination constitutes a written examination (five tests) and followed by an interview. ESE is considered as one of the toughest examination in India due to the difficulty related to the examination and the selection procedure. Also there are less number of posts and more number of aspirants.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

In case of nationalities, an aspiring candidate has to be one of the following mentioned below:

  • Candidate should be the citizen of India.
  • Candidate can be the citizen of Nepal and Bhutan.
  • Any person who hails from the Indian origin and has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Kenya , Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with a purpose of his/her permanent settlement in India.
Age Eligibility

You need to be between 21 years to 30 years as on 1st January of the exam year. (However certain categories of persons (SC, ST & OBC) and certain departmental candidates are eligible for age relaxation).

Academic Qualification Eligibility

A degree in Engineering from a recognized university or equivalent. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are also eligible. Final year students can also appear in IES exam.

Only those Candidates qualifying at this Stage (i.e. Stage I + Stage II + Stage III) to be included in the Final Merit List of Engg. Services Exam. Thus the marks secured by the candidates in the Stage-I (Objective type papers) of the Engineering Services Examination should be added to the marks secured in the Stage-II (Conventional type papers) of the Examination and Stage-III (Personality Test) and accordingly, such marks secured by the candidates in Stage-I should also be counted for merit.

  • Junior Telecom officer in Indian Telecommunication Service
  • Assistant Naval Stores Officer Grade- I
  • Central Power Engineering Service

The post to the candidates in the different departments will be awarded on the basis of grades and marks. Candidates belong to Scheduled Caste (SC), Schedule Tribes (ST) and Female candidates can have relaxation in age and they would be provided with some other benefits as well as according to the norms issued by the Govt. of India.
